Fellowship

Election to the ASID College of Fellows, the Society’s highest honor, is bestowed on less than 1% of the ASID membership.

Fellowship is bestowed on professional members who have made notable and outstanding contributions to the profession, not only through their work, but through their demonstrated commitment to ASID and to the interior design industry.

Honorary Fellowship is conferred upon professionals who are not interior designers but have made notable and outstanding contributions to the profession, not only through their jobs, but through their demonstrated commitment to ASID and support of the interior design industry.

Fellowship

Fellowship may be granted to professional members who have shown distinction in fulfilling the criteria established by the ASID Council of Fellows. The criteria and the means of fulfillment are detailed below.

Honorary Fellowship

Honorary Fellowship may be granted to individuals who are not interior designers by profession who have shown distinction in fulfilling the criteria established by the ASID Council of Fellows. The criteria and the means of fulfillment are detailed below.

 

The Goals of Fellows and Honorary Fellows are: 

  • To represent a diverse community of thought leaders that creates insight into the strategic issues of ASID and the design industry.
  • Make a commitment to be engaged and supportive of ASID and the Fellows community.  
  • To identify and develop future Fellows. 
  • To take an active role with ASID in identifying future trends as well as mentoring our Ones to Watch recipients.

 

Fellows 

  • A recognized leader in the interior design community who demonstrates leadership excellence, outstanding commitment, and a positive impact in ASID and the industry. 
  • Nominees must be active ASID members for a minimum of 10 years through a combination of Allied/Professional status. **Nominees must hold Professional membership status for at least 7 years. (If uncertainties exist about a nominee’s length of membership, please contact ASID at fellows@asid.org to verify eligibility before preparing the online submission materials.)
  • Nominees must exhibit the highest levels of leadership, ethical conduct, and professionalism as confirmed by peer testimony. 

Honorary Fellowship

  • Nominees must demonstrate meaningful and notable contributions to ASID and/or to the interior design profession. ASID membership is not a requirement. 
  • Nominees must exhibit the highest level of leadership, ethical conduct, and professionalism as confirmed by peer testimony. 
  • If the ASID Council of Fellows selects an Honorary Fellow candidate upon review of their nomination, the ASID National Board of Directors then must approve the candidate. 

Members of the ASID Board of Directors and members of the Council of Fellows (at the time of nomination) may not serve as sponsors. However, current officers and members of the ASID Board of Directors may suggest nominees and ask another professional member in good standing to act as the sponsor. 

Nominations can be made by an ASID chapter or by an individual professional ASID member or Fellow. The nomination sponsor (i.e. the individual responsible for coordinating and submitting nomination materials) must be a professional member or fellow of ASID in good standing. For an ASID chapter submission, the nominating chapter will select a professional member or fellow in good standing to act as a single sponsor.

Section One: Nominee Profile

Please include nominee’s contact information, a hi-res photo, current chapter, and year the nominee became a member (if applicable).

  • Educational Background
    Submit the nominee’s complete educational background information, including state or territory(ies) where nominee is registered or licensed to practice interior design (if applicable).
  • Statement of Achievement
    Submit a statement of achievement on one page (max 500 words). The list of nominee accomplishments must show achievement on national or international levels in areas related to design and should validate the contributions the nominee has made to the Society and the advancement of the interior design profession.

Section Two: Documentation of Design Work and Accomplishments

  • Video Submission
    Upload a 3-5 minute video providing detailed information of nominee’s work. A list of sample questions/topic areas to discuss can be downloaded here.
  • Industry Contributions
    If applicable, submit a list of books, articles, or research documents written by or about the nominee.
  • Leadership and Recognition
    Submit a list of significant awards, honors, and recognition the nominee has received.
  • Service and Volunteerism
    Submit a list of the nominee’s volunteer contributions to ASID, related design organizations, and community efforts.

Section Three: References

  • Reference Signatures: 

    • Nominations sponsored by a chapter are required to include one(1) signature from the current chapter president or president-elect.
    • Nominations sponsored by an ASID Professional Member and/or Fellow must include ten (10) reference signatures from ASID Professional Members or five (5) signatures from Fellows.
    • Five (5) Reference Letters – Three (3) of five (5) required to be from ASID Fellows
    • Sponsor reference letter – Each nomination sponsor must a submit a letter of recommendation in addition to five (5) reference letters
    • Signed sponsor agreement
    • All reference letters should be submitted to this link by the nomination deadline.
    • Current members of the Council of Fellows are unable to provide signatures or reference letters for any nominees.
