ASID Mourns the Passing of Fred B. Hershey, FASID

The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) mourns the passing of Fred B. Hershey, FASID. Remembered as one of Albany's most prominent interior designers, Hershey founded Burlingame Interiors, Ltd., where he served as principal for nearly 50 years. His design work, which included local businesses, apartment complexes, educational and health institutions and historic landmarks, churches, clubs and residences along the east coast, earned him awards and recognition in the Albany and Loudonville communities and beyond. Hershey was a graduate of Syracuse University. He served as president of ASID’s Upstate New York and Canada chapter, and was recognized as an ASID Fellow, an honor bestowed on less than 1% of the ASID membership. Hershey was a passionate and dedicated advocate for the interior profession, spearheading state legislation to establish professional certification and other credentials for professional interior designers in New York. It was fitting that Hershey was awarded New York’s very first interior design state certification after the law passed in 1990. ASID celebrates the life and accomplishments of Fred B. Hershey and sends condolences to all those whose lives he touched.
