ASID Practitioner and Educator Members must earn a minimum of 10 units (10 hours) of approved continuing education (CEU) every two years. The current reporting period is from January 1, 2024 – December 31, 2025.
ASID bylaws and policies require all Practitioner Members (Professional, Allied, and Associate) and Educator Members meet the Society’s continuing education requirement. Enacted by the ASID Board of Directors in April 2007, this member requirement is based on a belief that professional development strengthens the interior design profession and the Society by improving members’ competencies, knowledge, and skills in subject areas essential to the growth and success of the industry.
For the current two-year reporting period starting January 1, 2024:
Practitioner and Educator Members who join on or before May 31, 2024 must earn 10 CEUs (10 hours).
Practitioner and Educator Members who join between June 1, 2024 – May 31, 2025 must earn 5 CEUs (5 hours).
Practitioner and Educator Members who join on or after June 1, 2025 will not be subject to the requirement until the next period beginning January 1, 2026.
Individual Members in the following categories are exempt from the continuing education requirement:

Professional Retired Member
Allied Retired Member
Student Member
State Licensure Renewal: For ASID members who need continuing education for state licensure renewal, all continuing education taken for your licensing renewal can also be applied to the ASID requirement. Check with your state regulatory board or agency for requirements.
NCIDQ Certificate Holders: The ASID Member CEU Requirement is distinct from the continuing education requirements to maintain your NCIDQ Certification. The Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW) CEUs completed for your NCIDQ Certificate renewal will also fulfill your ASID Member CEU Requirement.

ASID members are to utilize the International Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC) registry to track their CEUs earned. The IDCEC user registry allows you to upload and track your continuing education activity as well as store a record under your account. Check your IDCEC account regularly to ensure your records are up to date. Refer to the ASID IDCEC Website Guide for instructions.
IDCEC provides learning opportunities and registry services to design professionals under one platform. As a founding and core member of IDCEC, all ASID practitioner members receive access to the IDCEC registry and dashboard. ASID Chapters receive discounted rates for course submissions. ASID Industry Partners receive a discounted rate as first time IDCEC course providers.
Every ASID member subject to the continuing education requirement has a unique IDCEC number to log in to the website (your IDCEC number is different than your ASID number). You can find your number by clicking on “Update Account” from the ASID Member Menu after logging in to asid.org. Scroll down to the “About My Work/Affiliations” section of your Member Profile to find your IDCEC number.
You may only report unique continuing education units earned during the current reporting period, January 2024 – December 2025. If you received credit for a CEU in a previous compliance period, you will not receive credit again if you retake the course.
ASID may grant an adjustment to the requirement for poor health, certified by a physician; a specific physical or mental disability, certified by an appropriate health care professional; extended duty with the armed forces; or for extreme hardship, which, in the board’s judgment, makes it impossible for the member to comply. Requests for an adjustment to the continuing education requirement must be made in writing. Please send a brief explanation with your request for exemption via email to membership@asid.org, with the subject line “CEU exemption request”.
At the end of a reporting period, ASID will review the IDCEC report of CEUs completed by each member. Select members will be audited and required to submit proof of the 10 (10 hours) CEUs required by way of a certificate of attendance or completion or other documentation. Members who cannot supply proof of completion will face failure of compliance. Any member who fails to comply with the continuing education requirement may be subject to suspension of Society membership in accordance with the requirements of the ASID Bylaws.
Continuing education should be relevant to interior design and in the form of courses, workshops, and presentations, in-person or online.
CEU types accepted:
ASID accepts continuing education approved by the International Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC).
Reporting Process:
Course providers are required to report to IDCEC on your behalf; check with the course provider or sponsor to confirm reporting. You can also self-report an IDCEC course to IDCEC directly with proof of attendance (See IDCEC Website Guide).
ASID accepts continuing education approved by State Regulatory Boards. Refer to courses offered by your local jurisdiction for more information.

ASID typically accepts courses in interior design taken at accredited college or university programs. The coursework cannot be taken for college credit towards a degree program. ASID will approve 1 CEU (1 hour) per credit hour earned (not the actual hours you spend in class).

You must submit the higher education course to ASID for pre-approval using the ASID Self-Reporting Submission Form.
Note there is a $25 USD processing fee for each submission. If approved, you will receive an approval letter with instructions to upload to your IDCEC registry along with your course transcript.
Completed courses offered by any other type of providers not listed above must be submitted to ASID for review prior to receiving credit.
Reporting Process:
Complete the ASID Self-Reporting Submission Form and pay the $25 USD processing fee for each submission.
You will be notified of course approval or disapproval within approximately 10 business days of receipt. Approval is based on information received and reviewed and is valid toward your ASID continuing education membership requirement. All such decisions are final.
