Real World Design Week, November 2-8

Real World Design Week, is a program designed to encourage relationships among interior design students and their role models in the industry.

Real World Design Week, November 2-8

Through organized shadow day experiences hosted by practicing design professionals, Real World Design Week can help your chapter to:

  • educate future industry leaders on professional practices
  • provide networking opportunities and foster mentoring
  • sustain the interior design profession
  • increase student membership
  • improve student retention and advancement rates
  • improve relations between practitioners and students within chapters
  • identify new candidates for future chapter leaderships
  • strengthen the positive image of ASID in the design community
  • increase awareness of ASID within the general public

If your chapter has best practices that you would like to share with ASID, we would love to hear them! No chapter is the same, and we want to give each region the opportunity to make RWDW the best it can be for your local members. Contact rwdw@asid.org with your ideas or suggestions to share!

EXPECTATIONS

We ask all ASID professional chapters to promote Real World Design Week to your local membership, with a primary focus on recruiting Professional members, Allied members and Industry Partner representatives to participate.

Promotion and Recruiting — Key Players

The following chapter leaders will play key roles in promoting Real World Design Week and recruiting mentors locally.

  • President and president-elect: Endorse Real World Design Week by appearing at all events and ensuring that local promotion progress reports and discussions are added to board meeting agendas.
  • Communications director: Market the program in all possible venues using literature and graphic templates provided by ASID headquarters (chapter newsletter, chapter website, email blasts, etc.).
  • Professional development director: Promote the program to professionals at all events, including chapter meetings, showroom visits, CEU sessions, social functions, Career Day, and more. Also ensure that other chapter events do not conflict with Real World Design Week.
  • SRB: Promote the program to all student members and faculty at student chapters. Ensure that student chapters are utilizing the Real World Design Week marketing materials sent from ASID headquarters.
  • Chapter administrator: Help deliver Real World Design Week marketing brochures to members via mail or distribute at chapter events. Work to match students with designers through the registration website and offline.
