Equal parts artist/designer and scientist/engineer, Bran Ferren has a distinguished career of contribution to business and product development, film and entertainment, aerospace and science. He has won many awards, including three Academy Awards for technical achievement, an Oscar nomination, The Wally Russell lifetime achievement award for lighting design, and the Kilby Award for contributions to society. Mr. Ferren fills his presentation with ideas gleaned from his vision of design and technology’s future, and he offers concrete ways to redesign innovation processes that come from his experience as one of our finest innovation practitioners.
He is the co-founder, Co-Chairman and Chief Creative Officer of Applied Minds, a company that provides advanced technology, creative design, and consulting services to a variety of clients including, GM, Herman Miller, Intel, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin and many US Government agencies. Before founding Applied Minds with his partner Danny Hillis, Ferren held various leadership positions, including President, of Walt Disney Imagineering R&D, a several thousand person creative resource for new technology invention and design for the entire Walt Disney Company.
Mr. Ferren has led the conceptual architectural design and interior design for many residential, as well as numerous large scale commercial and government projects. His commercial work has emphasized themed entertainment design, exhibitions, as well as more recently, technology intensive and collaborative workspaces.
