Online Directory Upgraded for Industry Professionals

WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 14, 2008) – The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) launched an upgraded version of the Interior Design Product Finder -– a Web-based buyers guide providing design industry professionals direct and immediate access to the products and services they need. Available through a link on the association’s homepage (www.asid.org), the Interior Design Product Finder features a broad array of products and service listings that will aid professionals and the work they do.

“Due to the diverse geographical locations of interior design partners and their suppliers, the map search, RFI tool and desktop search will help our members and other industry professionals to conduct much more of their business online rather than visiting in person, which is time consuming,” said Michael Alin, Hon. FASID, Executive Director. “These new features will save time, effort and money.”

Within the Interior Design Product Finder, two different methods of searching for products and services are available. The guide uses search technology that continually indexes the content of participating supplier web sites. Users have the option of performing keyword-driven searches that mirror traditional search engines or a category-specific search. Both methods produce the most relevant search results unique to the interior design industry without encountering the clutter of a general Internet search.

The 2008 edition has been revamped with mapping search functionality. Meaning, users have the option to filter and search by state, Industry Partner, Commercial Provider, Residential Provider and “To the Trade” giving them a more flexible and effective search tool. Also new this year is the Request for Information functionality. This new feature allows users to contact participating suppliers with a click of a button for assistance with their project specifications. The guide includes a desktop search mechanism, allowing visitors to download a free application that makes the information on the product finder available on the user’s computer desktop.

ASID partnered with MultiView, Inc., an Irving, Texas-based publisher of industry-specific search engines and supplier directories, to develop the Interior Design Product Finder.

“ASID recognizes the benefits of closely aligning members with suppliers,” said Dan Maitland, MultiView president.  “The Interior Design Product Finder will save design professionals an incredible amount of time as they seek the products and services they need for their projects.”
