About
Spectrum Fine Homes, Inc. is a family business, co-owned by Susan Davis and her husband Robert Davis. Susan is Design Principal, directing and mentoring the Spectrum Design Team. Degrees in both Fine Art and Interior Design, and years of experience in Building Design and Remodeling, have given Susan the perfect foundation to lead the Design Team. Continuing education and specialty certifications for the entire staff are a focus at Spectrum Fine Homes. Susan and Robert are both Certified Green Building Professionals, and are NARI Certified Kitchen & Bath Remodelers. They each have acquired their CAPs (Certified Aging in Place) certification from NAHB. Susan has been giving community seminars in Sustainable Design for the past four years, and has taught Sustainable Design at West Valley Community College, in Saratoga, California. Leadership and participation in professional organizations is important, too. Susan has served on the NARI, San Jose Executive Board for seven years, currently holding the position of Vice President of Education. Her passion for both Sustainable Design & Green Building along with education has involved her with the development of the curriculum for the National NARI Green Remodelers Certification, now available throughout the United States. She has facilitated several of the online study group sessions for this educational program, and also facilitates a Green Study Group at the Spectrum office. Susan is also on the Steering Committee for the Build-It-Green South Bay Green Professionals’ Guild, and Robert & Susan attend the monthly educational meetings of this group. Spectrum Fine Homes, Inc. has garnered many local and national awards for their projects, and have been featured or have contributed content for several local and national publications. Spectrum Fine Homes had two homes on the 2006 Build-It-Green Southbay Home Tour, and won Best Green Remodel for one of the homes on that tour.
Services Offered
Spectrum Fine Homes, Inc. has been an established residential Design/Build/Interior Design firm for almost 20 years. Located in the San Francisco Bay Area, our focus is Sustainable Design & Green Building. We have been Certified Green Building Professionals since 2004, and are positioned as local leaders in Green Remodeling. Several of our staff hold various certifications with the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) & the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). Spectrum Fine Homes Inc. has made the commitment to promote design and building with techniques and products that do not adversely affect our clients’ health or the environment, and which increase the energy efficiency and comfort of the homes in which we work. Spectrum Fine Homes has both an in-house Design Team, and Construction Team. We are licensed General Contractors. We value the collaborative process involving both the Spectrum professionals, and outside consultants & trade specialists that bring their expertise to each individual project. With our Team Approach, we never forget that our Clients are the M.V.P. on the team! When it comes to planning, remodeling, and interior design, let our family of professionals take care of you.

Fee Structures
When designing for remodeling projects, it is with the intention that the project will be built by Spectrum Fine Homes, Inc. The Design Contract is separate from the Construction Contract, which is prepared after the plans and all specifications are completed in the Design Process. Design fees are billed on an hourly basis, with bimonthly invoicing. Construction is charged at a fixed fee, billed in progress payments over the duration of the construction phase of the project. Construction costs for our projects range from $40K to over $1M. The Design fees for these projects run between 8% to 15% of the cost of Construction. Interior Design/Furnishings projects are also handled with hourly design fees, billed bimonthly. We have many wonderful sources for sustainable finishes and furnishings, and can help our Clients with acquiring everything necessary to make their homes beautiful, comfortable, and a healthy environment in which their families can live. Some of our sources are ‘To the Trade Only’ and our Clients purchase from these through our company. We prefer to provide full service assistance with purchasing furnishings, because then we can be certain that the quality is maintained and that the delivery and installation is perfect. Interior Design/Furnishings projects average from $10K up per room for purchase of furnishings. The Design fees cover overall concept, space planning, options for finishes & furnishings, and installation of movable pieces. This can take from 10 to 20 hours per room. The initial appointment with potential Clients is at no charge, and is usually between one and two hours in length. Appointments are scheduled Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., either in your home or at our office. This time is spent getting acquainted with you, hearing about your design/remodeling dreams and informing you about the Spectrum Fine Homes Design/Build/Interior Design process.
Design Gallery
Every decision during the design for the remodel and for the furnishings of this home were made with Sustainable Design & Green Building considerations.
The combination of beautiful weathered finishes with the texture of silk & Venician plaster walls bring the Clients' Wabi-Sabi aesthetic to the design & remodel of their home.
Re-faced perimeter cabinets, a new island & countertops, and new appliances, fixtures and flooring update this kitchen.
A new kitchen was just part of this Green remodel of a 1928 bungalow.
Architectural glass, FSC certified hardwoods, cork flooring, and 'day-lighting' are but a few of the Sustainable Design elements in this Green remodel.
