A Boulder, Colorado native, Whitman has always had a passion and affinity for design, excelling in art classes in school. She is entirely self-taught and the elegant and inviting spaces she’s created have been featured in In Style, Home and Décor, Statement, Brentwood Magazine, US Weekly, People and In Touch, among others. Her own home has appeared on the cover of Avenues and her work has been published in Homes of Hollywood Bachelors, In Style Home, Ultimate Decorating, Homes by Design and Dream Walls. Kari hosted her own show Designer to the Stars on the WE Network, was a featured designer on The Dude Room on The Discovery Channel, and is currently developing a new show about her celebrity, eco-friendly and pet-friendly design. Additionally, she has been a special correspondent for Extra and has appeared on The Rachael Ray Show, The Today Show, E News, Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, Inside Edition and Hollywood Green. She has written a green design column for In Style and was a regular columnist on pet-friendly design in Dog Fancy. Whitman's true passion is animals and she is the founder of Ace of Hearts Dog Rescue (www.aceofheartsdogs.com). The non-profit is dedicated to rescuing dogs from Los Angeles County shelters the day they’re scheduled for euthanasia and finding them loving homes. Whitman also created Greener Pup (www.greenerpup.com) eco-friendly dog beds with up-cycled designer covers and 100% recycled plastic bed fillers. 100% of profits benefit Ace of Hearts!
Kari Whitman founded KWI - Kari Whitman Interiors – in 1994 as a full-service design firm specializing in high-end residential and commercial projects. Based in West Hollywood, Whitman’s design work has been showcased throughout California and in New York, Aspen and Miami. Clients including Jessica Alba, Virginia Madsen, Kristen Bell, Don Henley, Emilio Estevez, Don Johnson and more have flocked to KWI for Whitman’s trademark eclectic style, and knowledge of eco- and pet-friendly design. Known for incorporating architectural salvage pieces, art and artifacts, and mixing antiques and contemporary styles, the result is always a high-end reflection of her clients’ taste and passions. Whitman has been committed to “being green” long before it became a Hollywood trend. Her knowledge of eco-friendly alternatives and innovative use of environmentally sound elements have made her a respected expert on green design. Whitman says, “My intention is to design interiors that create a feeling and positive energy in every single room, a look that expresses the personality of my client, but still looks elegant, beautiful and comfortable!” A licensed contractor, Whitman offers a “one-stop shop” for all of your design needs. She personally oversees all aspects of the construction and design process and has been working with the same group of highly-skilled subcontractors for over ten years.

Initial consultations are free of charge. Clients are charged based on a percentage of any work that is done or materials that are ordered—from flooring to walls, to furniture, fabric and decorative accessories. There is no charge for phone calls, client visits or shopping for clients. Hourly rates may apply only for rearranging existing furniture, if needed, or mixing custom paint colors. Please note there is a two-room minimum for design jobs.
